About SingPeace!

SingPeace! is about celebrating peace. Founded by Pushkara Sally Ashford, SingPeace! is the celebratory component of BePeace, which teaches techniques for feeling, speaking and teaching peace.

The "feeling peace" aspect of BePeace is based on fostering "coherence" through appreciation. Coherence is a physiological state in which the nervous, cardiovascular, hormonal and immune systems work efficiently and harmoniously together. It improves brain cognitive function and our overall sense of well-being. Thus, it helps us create an inner state from which we can deeply and sincerely express ourselves in a peaceful, compassionate way.

The "speaking peace" aspect of BePeace makes use of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) techniques, developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. These techniques are based on connection to universal needs, empathy and honesty. They involve moving from observations (observable, neutral data), to feelings (e.g. happy, sad, angry, afraid), to universal needs (e,g, understanding, respect, connection), and finally to requests (clear words asking for concrete, well-defined, do-able actions to satisfy a need).

Having absorbed these techniques on a gut level, one becomes empowered to pass the teaching on, i.e. to "teach peace."

Finally, through music and singing, we celebrate peace and help build a buoyant, joyful culture of peace.
